A Catholic Marriage Workshop Inspired by Holy Communion Itself

Catholic marriage counselors are rare — and often booked solid. For many couples, it can be difficult to find support that is both deeply practical and liberated and empowered by the light of the Catholic faith—lavishly supported with Scripture.

That combination is part of what makes this Catholic marriage workshop with Mr. Johnson so unique.

Taking place June 26–27, 2026, Mr. Johnson's workshop "From Communication to Communion" is designed not simply as a lecture about marriage, but as an opportunity for couples to begin learning and practicing the kinds of skills that help relationships heal and grow stronger over time. Much of Mr. Johnson’s counseling work focuses on teaching simple, foundational habits that require ongoing practice, including trial and error—and lots of patience! During the workshop, couples will not only learn about those skills but will also be guided in practicing them together — all within a respectful environment that avoids pressure to share personal details publicly.

At the same time, the workshop offers a profoundly Catholic vision of marriage.

Drawing from St. Paul’s description of Christ’s “one flesh” marital union with the Church as the “great mystery” in Ephesians 5, Mr. Johnson explores the relationship between the Eucharist and the union of husband and wife—a union that is both physical and spiritual. Through this lens, couples are invited to see both the Mass and marriage in a deeper way: not simply as obligations, empty rituals, or institutions, but as invitations into the graces of faith, hope, sacrifice, and loving communion!

Rather than separating practical relationship skills from spiritual life, this workshop shows how “the two have become one.” Participants will explore how loving and humble communication, courage, vulnerability, new levels of compassion, and forgiveness can become pathways toward a holier and spiritually more life-giving marriage.

Whether courting, engaged, newly married, or many years into marriage, couples are invited into a weekend of inspiration, new experiences, and refreshed perspective on what it means to live marriage as a sacrament. And singles will be invited to “role play” in pairs / trios to learn these powerful “mechanics” of wise and virtuous communication.

Tickets for the workshop are on sale until June 19, 2026. The workshop will take place June 26–27 at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2621 Vermont St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
